Musical Notation
Musical notation is a system of symbols used to visually represent music. Just as letters represent language, these symbols allow composers and musicians to write, read, and perform musical pieces with precision.
Each symbol has its own purpose: indicating pitch, rhythm, duration, dynamics, or structure.
Common symbols and their meanings:
- 𝄞 Treble Clef – Indicates higher pitches, used for melody lines
- 𝄢 Bass Clef – Indicates lower pitches, used for bass and harmony
- ♩ Quarter Note – One beat in common time
- ♪ Eighth Note – Half a beat; often grouped
- 𝄽 Whole Rest – Silence for four beats
- 𝄿 Quarter Rest – Silence for one beat
- ♯ Sharp – Raises a pitch by one semitone
- ♭ Flat – Lowers a pitch by one semitone
- ♮ Natural – Cancels a sharp or flat
- 𝄀 Bar Line – Divides measures
- 𝄂 Double Bar Line – Marks a section end
