A beast is a creature that possesses more sentience than a wild animal, but not quite as much as a person. They typically do not resemble any existing animal, often appearing instead as large, entirely unique creatures or giant insects.

Beasts typically live alongside people to serve as companions, although the domestication of them is a lot less common in the modern era. They are incapable of spoken language and mostly communicate through body language, much like regular animals.

Most beasts can live for hundreds of years, and are often passed down through multiple family generations.

Domesticated beasts are generally docile, but feral or wild ones can be unpredictable.

Because domesticated beasts rely so heavily on people, they often cannot survive if released back into the wild.
